Straight TalkNo child ever said, "When I grow up I want to be a crack-smoking, heroin-shooting, alcoholic." Yet so many end up in the prisons of addiction. Prisons where crank stretches minds to the breaking point, heroin dulls the emotions such that a true threat of death elicits no response, and crack stands guard controlling its prisoner's every move. How did they, the children who had no intention of going that way, end up there? Most entered by the gate. Gateway drugs are those drugs that most young people start on before they get locked into the heavier ones. Straight Talk is a program funded by the United Way and presented by Triumph Treatment Services, targeted at educating school children about the harmful effects of (tobacco, inhalants, alcohol, marijuana) the gateway drugs. Triumph Treatment Services is taking this program into the schools, churches, and youth groups in the hope that some children may be saved by knowledge who might otherwise have perished. |
